Description
A multimode optical cable with OM3 fibers is used for high-speed data transmission and light signals over distances of up to 550 meters at speeds of up to 10 Gbps. Optical cables are used in communication networks, telecommunications, television, medical equipment, scientific and industrial applications, architecture and design, as well as for data transmission in aerospace and military technology. They are a more reliable and secure way of transmitting information than traditional copper cables and can transmit larger amounts of data over long distances. The fibers have color coding for quick and easy identification. This cable construction based on a central buffer tube is very compact, lightweight, and flexible, and is ideal for connections with a moderate number of fibers. These cables are designed for installation in pipes, channels, and inside buildings. Gel-free fibers simplify installation and reduce maintenance costs, while the LSZH/FRNC outer jacket provides safety in case of fire.

Optical Characteristics

The OM3 fiber can be used at two operating wavelengths: 850 nm and 1300 nm. The 850 nm wavelength is used for short distance data transmission up to 300 meters, for example, inside buildings and premises. The 1300 nm wavelength is used for data transmission over longer distances up to 550 meters.

OM3 is one of the standards for multimode optical fibers and differs from OM1 and OM2 by a higher bandwidth at longer distances. The OM3 fiber has a 50 µm core diameter , and also supports the use of VSEL lasers.

VSEL laser

(VCSEL laser, Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser) is a semiconductor laser that has a vertical crystalline structure and can emit light in a direction perpendicular to the chip surface. This type of laser is an efficient and reliable light source for optical fibers and is used in various devices such as network switches, servers, and other high-speed data transmission devices.
